Tahiti
French Polynesia, or Tahiti after the largest island, is a paradise in the middle of the South Pacific, a mixture of the French chic with the friendliness of the Pacific. The 118 islands are as varied as they are numerous, coral atolls and volcanic peaks, coconut fringed beaches and tumbling waterfalls but all however are fringed by beautiful aqua blue coral reefs offering unbelievable diving and snorkelling. The sheltered waters of the lagoons offer easy diving amongst beautiful coral gardens teeming with exotic fish. Once outside the reef the crystal clear waters reveal the larger pelagic fish that cruise these oceans. It is in these waters that you will find huge and graceful Manta Rays, dolphins, sharks and whales. The tidal flows through the narrow passes in the reef create amazing drift dives for the more experienced diver. The extraordinary variety of the islands, reefs and lagoons make each island a unique destination with many more dive sites yet to be explored. The tours shown give a variety of diving but we would be pleased to tailor an itinerary to your specifications. Hotel Maitai Polynesian - Bora BoraLocated on a hillside, the Hotel Maitai offers a breathtaking view across the emerald coloured lagoon to the neighbouring islands of Raiatea and Tahaa. The Maitai offers a beautiful range of Polynesian style accommodation from air-conditioned Garden Rooms to Ocean View Rooms and Overwater Bungalows. Next to a white sandy beach is the restaurant and all the rooms feature a refrigerator, ceiling fan and TV. For the non-diver a wide variety of activities can be organised, from a jeep safari to a circle-island tour on a traditional outrigger. Bora Bora offers the diver an abundance of marine-life, especially large species, both inside and outside the reef. The Manta Rays, for which Bora Bora is famous, can be found either alone or in groups of up to ten or more, swimming in the shallows as well as in deep water - so you are almost guaranteed to see one. Hotel Maitai Dream ? Fakarava With a total of 30 luxury bungalows, this small property will charm even the seasoned traveller with its exceptional location, facing a virgin lagoon teeming with fish and coral. Ideally located on a wide white sand beach, the wooden bungalows are grouped in units of three facing the lagoon. Free facilities include kayaks, outrigger canoes, snorkelling equipment and volleyball. Excursions can be arranged to watch the famous black pearls being farmed or a picnic taken on a deserted motu. The only scuba diving centre in the region is at the Hotel Maitai Dream where experienced guides will show you Tiger Sharks, Manta Rays, turtles and much, much more. This is definitely one of the best diving spots in the Pacific. Pearl Village Resort ? Tikehau The secluded Pearl Beach is located on one of the most beautiful motus of Tikehau, with a beautiful white sandy beach fringed with palms. The 14 Beach Bungalows and 16 Overwater Bungalows are designed in true Polynesian style, spacious with a ceiling fan, refrigerator, and coffee/tea making facilities, TV and private verandah. The Overwater Bungalows include a glass section in the floor from which to watch the spectacular lagoon below. The bar and restaurant are located near the pool. This is a diver's paradise where the Manta Rays' dance alternates with the parade of Barracudas, tunas, multicoloured coral fish and the ubiquitous Reef Sharks. Kia Ora Village ? Rangiroa The Kia Ora Village is a beautiful but low-key hotel with all the amenities and service expected from a deluxe property. The well-appointed Polynesian style bungalows are either scattered amongst the coconut grove or along the white coral beach, with the Overwater Bungalows stretching into Rangiroa's breathtaking lagoon. Even the bar is over the lagoon and has a glass floor to view the exotic fish. All rooms have ceiling fans, air-conditioning, hair dryer, shower and refrigerator. A paradise for water sports and nature lovers, there are excursions to suit everyone from picnics on deserted motus to shark feeding. Activities for non-divers include snorkelling, tennis, bicycles, petanque, glass bottom boat tours and dolphin watching tours in season. For the diver Kia Ora village lies between the two passes of Avatoru and Tiputa and offers exceptional and exciting drift diving in crystal clear waters, where huge schools of pelagic fish aggregate as if placed in an aquarium. This is the place to come for exciting diving and is a mecca for shark action! All levels of divers are catered for at Kia Ora and night dives are available on request. There is much for the non-diver to be captivated by in Tahiti and her islands, especially the beautiful lagoons and beaches. Discover the mystery and majesty of inland mountains and valleys by 4WD tour, or trek on foot along the untamed coasts to explore old lava tubes, burial caves and hidden grottoes. For the active there's horse riding, golfing, hang gliding and of course a huge range of watersports centred on the pristine lagoons. corvette c3 specifications
